Maureen

Founder/Yoga Teacher

Maureen (E-RYT 500, YACEP) is the founder and owner of Mangala Yoga. When not at the studio, she is busy raising her five kids, Malia, Aidan, Vienna, Tristan and Maggie (this last one is her Golden Retriever "child")  and spending time with her fiancé Lou. She travels back and forth to Mangala Yoga in Hawaii and Colorado several times a year. In 1997, she attended her first Iyengar yoga class in a somewhat questionable library in Gaithersburg, MD. Although this was far beyond the ideal space, she tapped into a feeling that reminded her of home. Ever since then, it’s been a love affair that she has tended to. Maureen has had the opportunity to practice and study several different styles such as Anusara, Iyengar, Power Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow, Yin and Restorative Yoga. Her main style is Vinyasa which she calls Jungle Flow, practiced in a non-heated room, and Lava Flow which is practiced in an infrared heated yoga studio. Maureen’s background in massage, anatomy, and kinesiology has helped her develop Mangala Yoga’s teacher-training programs, workshops, and intensives. Maureen received her 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Vinyasa with the lovely Janet Stone in San Francisco, CA. Janet had Christopher Wallis, aka “Hareesh”, share his beautiful teachings of Tantric Philosophy with their training. This ignited a desire to learn more about tantric philosophy, so she continued her study with Hareesh in the Bay Area over the next few years. Many students have shared that Maureen’s teaching style often involves a great sense of humor, and offers well-balanced intelligent sequences that are practiced to upbeat music. As a teacher trainer, Maureen incorporates all subject matters in a seamless and inspirational way leaving students eager to learn more.

Anita

Yoga Teacher

Anita began her yoga journey in Sacramento, CA the day she lost her “real” job in 2008. This is when she met Maureen (Mangala’s Founder) and the universe conspired to keep them working together as she supported the birth of Mangala Yoga in Maui in 2011. She continues to play an active role in managing, teaching and training. She completed her 200hr trainings at the Mount Madonna Center in California and Mangala Yoga in Maui, where she also completed her 300hr YTT.  In Anita’s classes you’ll connect deeply with your breath as she guides you through an intelligently sequenced vinyasa class. Her intention is to support, energize and leave you feeling balanced and connected to a more peaceful self.

Annmarie

Yoga Teacher

Annmarie is a San Diego, CA native and a 500 hour Vinyasa Teacher. She received her first 200 hour certification with Jano Galindo, Kristyan Stjerne, & Marck Jansen of The Chula Vista Yoga Center in 2009. She discovered Mangala Yoga in Maui, Hawai'i where she received an additional 200 hour certification with Maureen (Founder of Mangala Yoga Studios) in 2014, followed by her 300 hour certification in 2015. She continues to help facilitate Mangala Yoga's teacher training programs in Hawai'i and Colorado. In 2017 she received a Health Coaching Certification through her education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Annmarie’s classes are a mix of old school & new school. You’ll get a strong musical flow that’s welcoming to all levels. She’s passionate about alignment, intelligent sequencing, assisting, all while weaving in yogic philosophy that is applicable to her class themes and our everyday life. She understands that teaching yoga is a privilege and a way to pay respect to the teachers and lineage before her. “My hope is that I can weave together all the different teachings that I’ve gathered (& continue to practice) and make it accessible, fun, and useful for our current culture, community, and the world around us.”

Ashley Jean

Yoga Teacher

Ashley was hooked by the moving meditation of vinyasa yoga. She transferred her growth from her mat to creating a life of fulfillment becoming a fitness instructor. In 2011, she completed her 200hr yoga teacher training in Chicago. She continued her trainings in Chicago to be certified in Yoga sculpt (yoga with weights), Hot power fusion (bikram style), Yin Yoga, Barre and Krav Maga. In Ashley's classes you will explore linking breath to movement, flow to music, strengthen your core and feel fulfillment in your day.

Allisa

Allisa found a curiosity for yoga at a young age. In 2019, after trying many styles of yoga and curating her own yoga centered music events, she decided that teaching yoga was her dharma. She fuses her Tantra inspired movement with Ayurvedic traditions, Hindu mythology and sound healing to help guide students into a deeper connection with themselves and the universe.
Allisa’s warm and creative energy creates a space for self-exploration & acceptance. She is currently studying to become an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor & AyurDoula, specializing in postpartum care, through Kerala Ayurveda Academy in California & Inner Sun & Moon Wellness.

Cara

Yoga Teacher

Since 2009, Cara K. Griffin E-RYT 500+ of Breath & Barefeet Yoga has been sharing her transformational yoga practices with students all over the world. Best known for her mantra, "FREE YOUR PELVIS!" and her signature hip and pelvis programs, Cara offers personalized coaching programs, monthly donation clinics, and in studio classes on Maui’s North Shore. Introduced to yoga at the age of 15 by Kundalini and energy healers, Ataana and Tammy Badilli, Cara utilized the profound benefits of breath and yoga to heal from tragedy, abuse, and trauma. It continues to change her life. While living in Savannah, GA, Cara completed 400hrs of Vinyasa teacher training, was certified as a Pranic Healer under Master Chao Kok Sui, and practiced Vipassana and Zen meditation with community teachers. In 2018, she launched Breath & Barefeet Yoga, created an apparel line, and completed her first U.S. tour across the East Coast. She believes in synthesizing yoga methodology for the individual; curating holistic practices for resilient lives. Her teaching methodology is less, but better and to practice for a purpose. Cara will complete her 1000 E-RYT by 2021. Additionally, Cara is an accomplished multi-disciplinary artist whose work combining art process with yoga has been published several times. Her dharma is to connect deeply, deliberately, and courageously through her teachings.

Hannah

Yoga Teacher

Hannah's journey in yoga is a beautiful and ever unfolding path: she was first drawn to the practice after a number of injuries sustained through competitive skiing. Rather than turning to the three surgeries called for at the time, she stepped on to the mat and never looked back. For the past ten years and 600+ hours of training, she has committed to ongoing studies with many incredible teachers within the bhakti lineage with a depth of understanding and emphasis on both the practical and the philosophical, and her passion for her personal practice comes with an ever-increasing commitment to the spiritual components and rich history of the practice as well as a deepening understanding of western anatomy and physiology. She works to cultivate a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment in her classes and a container that can hold all that arises for each individual within their practice. In addition to yoga, Hannah is a trauma informed postpartum doula, transformational facilitator, and birth educator with a background (and ongoing studies) in somatics, non-profits, anti-racism, ancestral healing, herbalism, homesteading, astrology, writing, and ceremonial spaces. She looks forward to seeing you on the mat!

Jade

Yoga Teacher

Jade has always had a strong intuition and a curiosity for a deeper fulfillment of life. Yoga was first introduced to Jade in 2006 but it wasn't until stepping foot into Mangala Yoga that she finally felt at home on her mat. After achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, Jade adventured to SE Asia where she had a beautiful awakening once introduced to Buddhism. Soon after, she was inspired to move to Maui to reunite with her ohana and embrace a more island-paced lifestyle. Completing Mangala Yoga's 200 hr YTT had a profoundly transformative affect on Jade in all areas of her life, particularly igniting her to discover her voice through chanting. Jade has also completed a SUP Yoga teacher training and is in the process of achieving Mangala Yoga's 300 hr YTT. Having been born and raised in the islands, Jade has a deep respect and love for Hawaii and the ocean. Practicing both the ancient principles and asana of yoga provides Jade with a way of channeling her spiritual connection and sharing it with her community. What Jade especially loves about yoga asana is the group synergy that is created by practicing as a united community, joining each other in breath and body to inspire one another to be present. Gathering inspiration from her teachers Maureen Gildersleeve, Michele Ford and Jessica Fertig, Jade incorporates their knowledge she uses to ignite her own practice to empower her students to find a deeper meaning to yoga as her teachers have granted her. Jade's classes are an intelligently weaved array of Sanskrit chanting, pranayama breath work, strength building sequencing, uplifting music, and longer holds of ancient yoga asana to challenge students to breathe through any resistance and access their highest potential.

Kevalin

Yoga Teacher

Kevalin has a passion for living life with ahimsa (non-harm), love, and gratitude. During several years of hustling in the rat race of the corporate finance world, compromising her health, and living in various cities and countries, she found a home in yoga and built a strong foundation in her practices after re-evaluating her definitions of success. She received her 200hr RYT with a further focus in Philosophy, Meditation, and Ayurveda led by Tanya Kaps and Greg Kaps at the Yoga Barn in Ubud, Bali. She completed another 200hr Hatha Yoga program of continuing education with refinements in Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Jnana Yoga.

While often found off the mat cycling, rock and ice climbing, volunteering, or pursuing the arts, Kevalin is an immensely grateful student, who wants to contribute and give back by sharing her journey and passion through teaching yoga. With her training, she brings pranayama (breathwork), alignment, and group intention into her classes to provide a balanced, holistic, and grounded experience. Kevalin continues to deepen her yoga practice on and off the mat, as she actively seeks to learn from her fellow teachers and students while practicing alignment in her values, actions, mind, and spirit.

Michael

Yoga Teacher

Michael Steiger is known for his grounded & accessible teaching style. He doesn’t just teach how to pull-off eccentric postures - he teaches skills that go beyond the mat: how to navigate challenges with grace, how to claim our highest potential, and how to embrace others with an open heart.

Michael’s primary teacher is Ram Dass, who encourages us all to love all, serve all, and remember our unity. Michael received his 200-hour certification in 2019 and will finish his 500-hour certification in June of 2021 with Jason Crandell.

Michael’s goal is to inspire in his students a deeper awareness, understanding, and compassion for their body, mind, and spirit.
